KAREN HARVEY
DEPUTY MANAGER DINE-IN

It's quite nerve wracking going into a business where you didn't know anyone, didn't really know what to expect. So I went in and sat down with my trainer Mark who went through all of my training plan with me. He went through the day and what I'd be doing on that day, as well as kind of the 12 week plan, planned training and yeah, I mean everyone was really welcoming, everyone was really friendly so it never felt like I was an outsider going in. It was quite nice that everyone kind of did make me feel so welcome.

The Learning Zone is an online learning system. It breaks everything down for you from front of house learning, your back of house learning, shift management, deputy management training and it's really good because, you know, you get all the information there for you and you can read through it and then it gives you the opportunity to put it into on the job training as well so you get to take everything you've just learnt through the online learning and put it into action in the field so to say. And then at the end, you get an assessment so you can sit back and reflect how well you've done or what perhaps you might need to go over again, so that you can sit there and get it right and know that you know it. And it does make you a lot more confident in your job role because you know you're getting the best knowledge and the best information and really the best training that you can get.

Being signed off as a Deputy Manager would probably be the proudest thing that I've achieved within the company. It was set out for a twelve week kind of learning, I managed to complete this within eight weeks which is something that I personally am quite proud of. So yeah, to kind of go and know that I've achieved all the training, all the knowledge that I need to know and can you know, I'm set free to go and run my own store in the General Manager's absence. And you know, the first week within the store, the General Manager was away on holiday. So if was really good for me and I feel quite proud that I was able to maintain and run that business for the two weeks that she was away after being signed off for matters of days.

The best benefit is definitely the pension. I've never had one before and obviously I've been told that I should have one by people. But it's not something that I've ever really thought of or gone out and done. So it's perfect that it's just so easily done for me because it comes out of my salary every month when I get paid, I don't have to worry about it, I don't have to think, oh have I paid something in or have I not paid something in? It's just an automatic contribution and, you know, the fact that they match it or can go up to 6% of your salary with Pizza Hut's own contribution makes it fantastic for me. So I think it's a great benefit of working for the company.

You get to make really nice kind of friendships and it is, I suppose, like a family. Sometimes slightly dysfunctional but you know, that's what makes it fun and makes it slightly different. And so everyone just gets on really well and everyone gels really well and I've had a great time going into Watford and making friends there and going into Hemel and making friends there and then coming into Stevenage and making friends and relationships there. And it's really nice that I've bonded with the General Managers there and I know that if mine was on holiday I could phone up one of the others and ask them a question if there was something that I didn't know. So it is all really nice and the friendships there, they are so strong and the bonds are really strong which makes it really nice to go into work everyday.
