SUZI MARSHALL
RDO SCOTLAND/NTH EAST

So, within about one year of being an Ops Manager, I got promoted up to the Regional Director of Operations and I now look after a very lovely district, right the way from Liverpool across to Newcastle, all the way up to Inverness and I've got 11 great Area Managers that work for me in over 3000 teams so yeah, it is a pretty big job and great geography.

In Pizza Hut we've got a vision of 3 Million Smiles which is where all our guests and our Team Members all smile every week, having great service and engaging the whole business, different functions, different teams and getting them behind something that they could really, I suppose, make the vision of 3 Million Smiles come to life.

So, we pull together, it's called a score card and the score card is our strategy of how we achieve 3 Million Smiles, and what I did last year was in November we actually went round the whole of the district so there was a number of restaurants, 350 Restaurant Managers that came to see us, we travelled around the country for about three weeks, we took our score card, how it worked, how to get them engaged and they really bought into it.

Actually the first half of my career was very flexible because I was working in restaurants. So the first half I actually had two children so I actually managed to bring them up and not miss out on their schooling, on their parents' nights, on their sports days because actually I could work my time around them as well. So I was really fortunate that the first ten years were very flexible. Second half, ten years has been much more about me this time and it's been much more about my career and moving it forward so yeah, I do a lot of travelling which is fantastic but I think my two boys are very proud of the fact that actually if you want to achieve anything in life you need to go out there and take every opportunity that comes your way. I would definitely say that the flexibility of the business has helped me get where I am and not lose out on my home life.

But more recently we've done a Champions Club which is more about our top performers across the whole business and delivery as well as full service. And there would be about 20 managers who really get this opportunity to go away somewhere completely different and it is a trip of a lifetime. You do days that you'd never of organised these events. So ones to Cape Town, to New York, to Florida, you know, we've had a number of fantastic cities that we've visited.

Throughout my 23 years I've had some fantastic feedback throughout my career that's helped me get where I am, but actually I think it's my responsibility to make sure that my team and anyone who works around me or with me or have been in contact with me also gets the chance to realise their own potential. I think anyone who comes to work at the Hut, they don't always know right at the start what it is that they can do and as time goes on they suddenly realise there's a multitude that they can do. So realising people's potential probably makes me feel the most proud and watching a lot of my team work their way through, up from Team Member right the way through to Area Management, you can't be any prouder.
